How can I use my PC to write Chinese characters?

If you are using English keyboard, you can set up your Windows as following:

* Click on "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Regional and Language Options"

I followed the process hereby, it works on a computer but not with all Hanzi but it doesn't work at all with another computer also with Windows XP . I am looking forward to hearing from you.

* Click on Tab "Language", In "Supplementary Language Support", check on "Install files on East Asia languages"

* Click on "apply" and "OK". Then system will load the files within a minute.

* Click on Tab "Language" again, click on "details" in "text services and input languages". In tab "setting", "installed services", click on "add", then choose:

o Input language = Chinese (PRC)

o Keyboard Layout/IME = Chinese (simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin

* Then OK, Apply/OK.

Now in the bottom of your screen, close to many small icons on the bottom right, you will see a small square "EN". Click on it, you will be able to choose typing Chinese (CN) or English (EN).

Note that, if you want to type mixed text, you can stay in CN mode, but press "shift" once to switch from Chinese to English and press "shift" again to switch it back to Chinese whenever you want. With this, you can type Chinese characters in many applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

If you are using French keyboard, you have to change the keyboard to English one when you want to type Chinese. A way to avoid changing keyboard is that you still use your French keyboard, but print an English keyboard scheme and put beside to know the key positions.
