Oui, merci beaucoup ca fonctionne.
Je donne quand meme ma reponse pour celui qui lira plus tard:
Je ne l'ai pas installe en utilisant les rpm. Ca me sortait une erreur. Raison(de ce que j,ai compris): mon noyau (656) etait trop recent et le driver ne le supportait pas . Je l,ai donc installe avec le *.pkg1.run. Il fallait executer la commande sh <<leDriver>>.run sans que Xserver ne soit en execution. Et ca a marche.
Donc
ctrl + alt + shift + F1 (ferme X) femait effectivement X pour aller en mode console vga mais le processus roulait toujours. ctrl + alt + F7 (reouvre X)
J'ai donc changer les lignes suivantes dans le fichier /etc/inittab:
id:5:initdefault: devient id:3:initdefault:
(et pour partir X il faut par la suite tapper startx)
et donc en mode console j,ai pu installer le driver de nvidia correctement.
Et maintenant j,ai une toute autre interrogation; je veux faire fonctionner le systeme en dual screen (bi-ecran). J'ai modifie mon fichier xorg.conf en suivant les instructions de ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-7174/README.txt
et en fouillant un peu plus sur le web.
Il reste que ca ne fonctionne pas. Voici mon fichier xorg.conf
