Quelques kilomètres plus loin, et ++ que probablement pas mal aussi de "exactement ce qu'il ne fallait pas faire!" ...
vista a totalement disparu de mon disque dur :-) , recovery inclus... :-S .... (bah nan, pas gravé de disque = j'en veux pas, de vista!!)

ubuntu est installé, fonctionne. mais que surtout personne ne me demande comment j'ai réussi = aucune idée!....
la même manipulation répétée x et x fois sur x et x jours, longtemps inefficace, a fini par se décider à agir...
pourquoi? comment? = ???
(passée pas très loin de la crise de nerfs live... :'-( .
d'ailleurs, pas sûre que je le garde çui-là non plus...)

mais je ne résouds pas mon problème d'installer xp :'-( =
insertion du cd, démarrage, tentative d'installation, puis arrêt fracassant, soi-disant "de sécurité", ordi bloqué, obligée d'éteindre l'ordi au bouton (ctrl alt suppr inactif), puis de le re-démarrer au moins deux fois avant qu'il se passe quoi que ce soit côté démarrage sur ubuntu...
à préciser que, même avant que ubuntu soit installé, ça se passait déjà comme ça :-(

disque partitionné je pense correctement, j'ai recopié mon ancien disque dur (crash de mon ancien ordi mais aucunes données perdues) dans sa totalité sur une partition ntfs.
je pensais qu'ainsi le dual boot se ferait tout seul.......
probablement en rêves, ou dans une autre vie, mais pas aujourd'hui.

j'ai lu des tutoriels sur le dual boot; principalement = http://www.commentcamarche.net/... , qui me parle le mieux,
et = gksu gedit ("clique sur la barre d'espace") /boot/grub/menu.lst , de = http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-14320871-dual-boot-xp-et-linux#3 , pour éditer le fichier en question.

mais, avant de persévérer dans les plantages magistraux, je l'inscris où, le "1" du default du tuto sujet1178 ???....... et le reste qui va avec d'ailleurs ???

donc, avant que je flingue tout, vraiment :-( , inclus ordi dans le mur sur un ultime pétage de câble :'-( ....
y'a kikun qui aurait la grande gentillesse de bien vouloir m'expliquer en détail les manip's sauveuses??
(parce que là je n'en peux plus de cet ordi!!)
